Newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Ms Gwyn Lewis presents credential to Hon’ble Foreign Minister

The newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Ms. Gwyn Lewis presented her credentials today to the Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, MP at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting Ms. Lewis emphasized her commitment, and that of the UN Country Team, to harness the resources of the UN system to support the country’s development priorities as articulated in the 8th Five Year Plan and towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. She lauded Bangladesh’s strong commitment to the SDGs, its international leadership on multilateralism, its advocacy for climate-vulnerable countries and the continued generosity of the Bangladeshi government’s support to the Rohingya refugees.

Ms. Lewis is honoured to be welcomed in the country and looks forward to continuing the UN’s strong partnership with the Government, civil society and development partners.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Gwyn Lewis of Ireland as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh in May 2022.

Prior to her assignment in Bangladesh, Ms. Lewis served as Director of United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Affairs in the West Bank from 2019; leading a 4,000 strong team in providing essential services and humanitarian aid to more than 850,000 Palestine refugees in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Ms. Lewis succeeds former UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Mia Seppo.
