OHCHR and RRRC strengthen human rights capacity of camp officials through training series

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Office, has completed three training programmes for 91 RRRC officials, including 5 women, working in the Camp-in-Charge (CiC) offices across the Rohingya refugee camps. The trainings were held in three batches on 17, 24 and 27 August 2026 and brought together officials serving as Care and Maintenance Officers, Camp Management Assistants and Information Assistants.

As officials working directly within the camps, CiC office personnel play an important role in engaging with Rohingya communities and supporting the delivery of services and assistance in a manner that respects human rights and dignity. The training programme was designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of human rights principles and their application in the day-to-day management of the refugee response.

A dedicated session on Gender Equality, Women’s Rights and Gender-Responsive Humanitarian Action was delivered by UN Women across all three training sessions was. This session provided participants with an opportunity to explore gender equality and women’s rights and consider how humanitarian action can better respond to the different needs and experiences of women and men.

The sessions used an interactive and participatory approach, combining presentations, discussions, experience-sharing, and practical group exercises. Participants engaged with key human rights concepts and reflected on their relevance to their work and interactions with Rohingya communities.

Through this joint initiative, OHCHR and the RRRC Office continue to strengthen the capacity of frontline camp officials to integrate human rights principles into the humanitarian response and contribute to a more inclusive and dignified environment for Rohingya refugees.
