13 August 2023
Building on the momentum of its previous sessions, UNOPS Bangladesh hosted another triumphant session of the SDG Cafe on August 13, 2023. Held at the UNOPS Bangladesh Office, the event welcomed distinguished guests, including government, development sector, and private sector representatives, who engaged in enlightening discussions under the theme "Digital Transformation and SDG: Challenges and Opportunities for Bangladesh."
The eminent Prof. Syed Munir Khasru, Chairman of the Institute for Policy, Advocacy, and Governance (IPAG), graced the event as the keynote speaker. Prof. Khasru's thought-provoking insights highlighted the intricate relationship between digital transformation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on SDGs 9 and 17. He mentioned, “Although Bangladesh has made much progress on SDGs, there are key areas where the country can do even better, especially in innovation and industrialization.” His expertise shed light on the potential for technology-driven solutions to tackle challenges and leverage opportunities for a more sustainable Bangladesh.
Representatives from key sectors, including the ICT Division Bangladesh, the World Bank, GIZ Bangladesh, EU, Women in Digital, Dhaka Cast Ltd, and Synesis IT PLC, graced the event. Their active participation and insightful contributions underscored the significance of multi-sectoral collaboration in advancing sustainable development. Dr. Fahreen, Founder of Dhaka Cast, said, "Whenever we try to reach the remote area people to provide our services, we can see that many of them are still lacking behind in terms of technology. Also, sometimes, even if they have mobile phones and internet connections, they still do not know how to ensure the best use of these facilities. So along with ensuring technological advancement, we should also work to increase awareness among the target users."
Mr. Sudhir Muralidharan, Country Director of UNOPS Bangladesh, expressed his appreciation for the engaged participants and their commitment to driving positive change. "We are heartened by the active participation of esteemed stakeholders in this edition of the SDG Cafe," he stated. "At UNOPS, we are dedicated to introducing innovative digital solutions to our projects, aligning with the SDGs. Together, we can propel Bangladesh towards a digitally inclusive and sustainable future."
The SDG Cafe series continues to serve as a dynamic platform, fostering meaningful conversations and knowledge exchange vital for advancing sustainable development in Bangladesh. UNOPS Bangladesh extends its gratitude to all participants and looks forward to further collaborative endeavors that contribute to achieving the SDGs.
