On March 6th, 2024, a dialogue event on “Open Dialogue on Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," was held in celebration of International Women's Day (IWD) 2024 in Cox’s Bazar.
Embracing the global theme and aligning with the local focus on investing in women, this event promises insightful discussions on advancing gender equality; and empowering women in Cox’s Bazar.
Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) voiced his call: "52% of women and girls in the camps lag behind in different aspects. The government encourages actors to try deploying women government officials: there are two women CiCs in the camps, and some work as APBN. The environment should be women-friendly for gender mainstreaming and sensitive. Women are the center of the community. The question is: How can we foster women’s centers? ".
“The Global theme is Invest in Women this year. It is necessary to work on equal rights and equal opportunities for women and girls, gender equality and women’s empowerment for sustainable development” stated Gwyn Lewis UNRC, at the event.
UN Women Cox’s Bazar, Head of Sub Office, Silja Rajandar, stated: "International Women’s Day is a day for us to give force to a simple, but enduring idea – that women must be equal in status and rights to men. That we must do everything we can to make that happen – across the world, here in Cox’s Bazar, and in the camps.".
This event is organized by the GiHA WG's IWD Task Force, in collaboration with the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC).
