Monsoon rains of exceptional intensity and overflowing rivers in India's Assam and Meghalaya states have triggered catastrophic flooding across northeastern Bangladesh. The districts of Sylhet and Sunamganj are particularly affected, with over 3 million people have been affected, displaced from their homes, and facing disrupted livelihoods.
UNICEF reports a concerning number of vulnerable individuals among the displaced population. More than 772,000 children are at heightened risk of drowning, malnutrition, and waterborne diseases. Urgent humanitarian assistance is required to address their critical needs.
