Bangladesh: Eastern Flash Flood Situation Report No. 01
The Inter-cluster Coordination Group (ICCG), in collaboration with humanitarian partners and the Humanitarian Task Team (HCTT), has released a report covering the period from August 21st to 25th.
The report highlights the severe impact of flash flooding in eleven northeastern and southeastern districts of Bangladesh, caused by persistent heavy monsoon rains.
According to the National Disaster Response Coordination Center (NDRCC), approximately 4.94 million people in these regions have been affected, resulting in 18 fatalities. A significant portion of land, totaling 311,419 hectares, has been submerged, impacting rural roads, agricultural fields, and fishponds.
The severe flooding has disrupted communication and coordination due to power outages and limited connectivity. As of August 24th, nearly 928,000 people remained without power, and 1,807 cell towers were out of service. Additionally, floods damaged 462 kilometers of roads across 12 districts, hindering transportation and connectivity. The closure of over 7,000 schools due to flooding has affected an estimated 175,000 primary students in the affected districts.
