LUMUNA Hosts Successful Diplomatic Convention 2025 at Leading University

The Leading University Model United Nations Association (LUMUNA) successfully hosted the Leading University Diplomatic Convention 2025 on July 11 and 12 at the serene campus of Leading University, Sylhet. Under the urgent and globally resonant theme, “Turning the Tide: Global Diplomacy in the Face of Floods and Rising Seas” the convention offered an immersive platform for discourse and collaboration on some of the most pressing issues confronting our world today.
The conference brought together more than 150 delegates and 15 Executive Board members across five committees. The participating delegates were all current students of Leading University, many of whom were experiencing their very first MUN. They approached the sessions with sincerity, discipline, and a strong eagerness to learn. The Executive Board featured respected and experienced individuals from the MUN circuit of Bangladesh, whose guidance and leadership added great value throughout the conference.
The event commenced with a solemn tribute to the martyrs of the July Revolution, a moment that honored the past and anchored the convention in a spirit of remembrance and commitment to justice. The Opening Plenary, chaired by Dewan Sonubar Raza Chowdhury, featured inspiring words that emphasized the transformative power of youth diplomacy and collective responsibility.
Delegates were assigned to one of the following five intellectually rigorous committees, each aligned with the central theme:
1. UNHCR: Ensuring Comprehensive Protection and Humanitarian Support for Asian Communities Affected by Floods and Rising Sea Levels
2. ICJ: Territorial Sovereignty, Maritime Delimitation and Environmental Obligations in the Western Caribbean Sea (Nicaragua vs Colombia)
3. UNEA: Strengthening International Cooperation to Address Climate-Induced Flooding and Promote Sustainable Strategies for a Resilient Global Future
4. IP: Ethical Reporting for a Free and Independent Global Press

On the first day, committees were immersed in diplomatic discourse, establishing positions, exchanging perspectives, and laying the groundwork for collaboration through moderated and unmoderated caucuses. The enthusiasm and preparedness demonstrated by the delegates reflected a genuine commitment to engaging with their agendas critically and constructively.
The evening concluded with a Cultural Night, a vibrant celebration of creativity and camaraderie, where music, poetry, and dance offered delegates a space to connect through shared expression beyond committee rooms.
The second day marked a shift toward resolution-building. Delegates engaged in the drafting and revision of working papers and draft resolutions, followed by thoughtful negotiation and voting processes. Each committee made significant progress toward concrete proposals balancing ambition with realism, and ideals with practical solutions.
Even under the intense July heat, the momentum of diplomacy never faltered. Delegates exemplified endurance and poise, continuing their efforts with admirable energy. The efforts of the organizing body, Executive Board, and secretariat ensured that every logistical and academic element of the convention operated with cohesion and professionalism.
The Closing Ceremony of the Diplomatic Convention featured moments of gratitude and celebration, elevated by the gracious presence of esteemed guests, making the farewell both dignified and memorable. Among the distinguished guests were Professor Dr. Bashir Ahmed Bhuiyan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration; Md. Mofizul Islam, Registrar; Dr. Mohammad Shahansha Molla, Head of the Department of Business Administration; Ms. Shammi Akter, Head of the Department of English; and Mr. Ashfaque Ahmad Shovon, Advisor of the Leading University Model United Nations Association (LUMUNA), whose continued support and encouragement have been instrumental throughout the journey. Everyone of them, lent their presence and support, further enriching the experience for everyone involved.
The event concluded with a formal award-giving ceremony, where delegates were recognized for their exemplary performance, leadership, and contributions to the committees. The convention was thoughtfully guided by the Chief Conference Consultant, Jogat Jyoti Talukder and the Secretary General Haris Rahman Antor whose dedication shaped the direction and tone of the event.
In its entirety, the Leading University Diplomatic Convention 2025 stood as a compelling demonstration of what happens when thoughtful preparation meets youthful passion. In an era where global challenges grow increasingly complex, the voices heard in these committee rooms served as a reminder that meaningful change often begins with dialogue, empathy, and vision. As the curtains closed on the two-day journey, what remained was not just a set of resolutions, but a shared commitment to shaping a more sustainable and just world together.
