Anticipatory Action Mechanisms in Bangladesh - 2026
The 2026 Anticipatory Action (AA) Mechanisms in Bangladesh Snapshot provides an overview of the AA mechanisms currently on standby in Bangladesh and ready to be activated should triggers be reached for their respective hazards.
Bangladesh continues to be a pioneer in the AA space and currently has 24 mechanisms in place covering 8 different hazards. Together, these mechanisms represent more than USD 36 million in pre-arranged financing and preparedness capacity to help avert major crises and protect lives and livelihoods before impacts escalate.
Recent studies and operational experience continue to show that anticipatory action is not only more effective in reducing humanitarian impacts but also significantly more cost-efficient than responding after disasters occur. According to a recent study conducted by IFRC and partners, every USD 1 invested in anticipatory action can save up to around USD 7 in avoided losses and post-disaster recovery costs.
